Funeral in Rome condemned for Swastika-covered coffin

A religious funeral at a central Rome parish has been condemned after the coffin was covered with a Nazi swastika

The diocese says the flag is “a horrendous symbol that cannot be reconciled with Christianity”.

Pictures on the internet show the coffin bearing the body of a former member of a right-wing extremist group… with attendees also giving Nazi salutes.

Rome’s Jewish community has expressed outrage at the events, and police say they are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime.
