Mark Guglielmino discusses the leap from corporate executive to independent brokerage owner, highlighting challenges and valuable experiences

In Short:
– Transitioning from an executive role to business ownership offers new challenges and opportunities for personal growth.
– Successful brokerage requires financial preparedness and a clear niche based on individual expertise and experience.

Moving from an executive role to owning a brokerage means trading job security for the opportunity to build a business on your own terms.

For Mark Guglielmino, Director and Principal Broker at Capra Financial Group, the move allowed him to leverage more than 15 years of experience while creating a more personalised approach to broking.

The biggest hurdle was leaving behind a stable income and lifestyle.

But Mark says the collaborative nature of the industry, combined with established professional networks, can provide strong support for new business owners.

His corporate background also proved valuable, bringing discipline, problem-solving and adaptability to running a business.

However, entrepreneurs must be prepared to move beyond corporate habits and build more personal relationships with clients.

Mark believes finding a clear niche is critical, focusing on where a broker’s expertise can deliver the greatest value.

He also recommends having at least 12 months of expenses saved, given that broking income can take time to materialise.

For those considering the leap, Mark’s message is straightforward: entrepreneurship requires patience, calculated risk and, above all, the confidence to back yourself.
