The former Minneapolis police officer who was convicted of killing George Floyd has appealed convicted

Derek Chauvin argues the jury was intimidated by continuing protests and prejudiced by excessive pre-trial publicity.

His lawyers are asking the court of appeals to reverse his conviction and the decision entirely.

A Minneapolis jury found the former police officer guilty of murder in the killing of unarmed Black man George Floyd last year.

His death saw nationwide protests calling for an end to police brutality and anti-Black racism.

Footage shows Chauvin holding his knee against Floyd’s neck for more than nine minutes during an arrest in 2020.

He was sentenced to 22 and a half years in prison.
