Former boss of Asiana Airlines fined for denying female employees legal right

The former boss of South Korean Airline, Asiana has been fined for breaking workplace laws.

The ex-chief executive refused to let the flight crew take their legally entitled menstrual leave according to the BBC.

A South Korean court slugged the executive $2,320 for breaking employment law.

Since 1953, the particular workplace entitlement has guaranteed women one day off each month if they have painful periods.

Despite the allowance, usage of menstrual leave in South Korea is dropping.

According to a conducted survey, In 2013, 23.6 percent of South Korean women used the leave entitlement. By 2017, that rate had fallen to 19.7 percent.

Japan also has a menstrual leave policy, legislated in 1947, while the policy is almost non-existent in Western nations.
