France officially has a new prime minister after President Emmanuel Macron selected Labour Minister Elisabeth Borne for the role

It’s just the second time in 30 years a woman has held the position, as Macron gets set for the upcoming legislative elections in June.

In her inauguration speech, Borne dedicated her nomination to all little girls of France, telling them to go all the way pursuing their dreams.

It comes as Macron attempts to show frustrated voters he has heard their concerns, looking for a person who has green and social policy credentials.

This appointment will likely help the President counter hard-left veteran Jean-Luc Mélenchon who came in third place in the recent elections.

This support will Jean-Luc Mélenchon the opportunity to rally a broad range of left-leaning individuals in the June parliamentary vote.

Borne says the country needs to act “faster and stronger” to fight climate change and will fight to protect the nation’s purchasing power.
