There are grave fears for residents in North Korea, with the country reportedly battling a growing humanitarian crisis and food shortages.

International analysts say food insecurity has worsened the rogue nation battles further sanctions and COVID-19 lockdowns.

Leader Kim Jong Un has now convened an emergency meeting to improve the economy and grow the agricultural industry.

Without providing too many details, state media says leaders reviewed rural development projects, noting the meeting is ongoing.

Last month, a U.S. agency said “food availability has likely fallen below the bare minimum with regard to human needs” in North Korea, with food insecurity at its worst since the famines of the 1990s.
