Mixing and matching of vaccines will allow booster shots to be different to initial dose

The Food and Drug Administration has now authorised Johnson and Johnson and Moderna’s covid vaccines.

Additionally, “mixing and matching” of vaccines has also been approved, allowing Americans to receive a booster shot that is different to their initial dose.

The acting FDA Commissioner says “today’s actions demonstrate our commitment to public health in proactively fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic”.

She added that “as the pandemic continues to impact the country, science has shown that vaccination continues to be the safest and most effective way to prevent COVID-19, including the most serious consequences of the disease”.

The ruling will now be passed on to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention and its vaccine advisory committee.

If signed off, vaccine doses could be administered promptly to those who are eligible.

Trump claims Iran’s military largely neutralized; tensions rise with attacks threatening air travel and oil shipping.

President Trump says Iran’s military capability has been largely neutralised, including its navy and air force, as the conflict in the Middle East intensifies. Iranian attacks have threatened commercial air travel and oil shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, raising fears of wider economic fallout.

The U.S. Embassy in Riyadh has faced two attacks, while Gulf states worked to intercept further Iranian strikes. Officials report six U.S. troops killed and more than 700 deaths inside Iran as the exchange of fire escalates.

With global markets watching closely, the region remains on edge as military and diplomatic tensions show no signs of easing.
