The World Health Organisation says the continent is “in the firm grip” of COVID-19

Covid is still running rampant across Europe with no sign of improvements despite the rise in vaccination rates.

The World Health Organisation predicts that another 700,000 Europeans will die by the end of February which would bring the continent’s death toll to 2.2 million.

Europe remains “in the firm grip” of the virus which could see intensive care units in “high or extreme stress” in all but 4 countries.

Slow vaccination rates as well as well as colder weather forcing people back indoors is said to be behind the surge.

Austria went back into lockdown just this week with other countries including Germany and the Netherlands considering new restrictions.

Currently nearly 68 per cent of European Union’s population is vaccinated.
