The Egyptian Football Association has accused Senegal fans of Racism and violence during their World Cup Qualifying match
The Egyptian Football Association claims their team was subjected to racial abuse from the Senegal fans, particularly the team’s captain Mohamad Salah.
During the warm-up, fans could be seen throwing bottles, glass, and stones at the team, while others held offensive racial banners.
Green lasers were also directed at the Egyptian players as they took their penalty shots.
“The team was subjected to racism after offensive banners appeared in the stadium stands directed at the players, specifically Mohamed Salah, the team captain.”
“The Egyptian team’s buses were attacked, which resulted in their windows being broken and in injuries to some individuals.”
An official complaint has been submitted to the Confederation of African Football and to the FIFA body, which is awaiting disciplinary action.
Senegal eventually took the victory beating Egypt 3-1 in the penalty shootout, but the win was overshadowed by racism and violence.
The behaviour of Senegal fans has been widely condemned around the world, with thousands taking to social media to show their disgust.
It’s a disgrace that Egypt players had to take penalties with lasers being pointed at them, but Egypt fans have been doing this to opponents for countless years.
Either institute a full ban on lasers or don’t, but don’t give one country a pass and another country a reprimand. pic.twitter.com/HAHrvVb95z
It was really suspicious, as the Senegalese fans threw stones at the Egyptian team's bus, and then racist abuse of Mohamed Salah, even after the game, despite their winning, they threw water bottles at him and insulted him. We have to back him when he back to Liverpool. pic.twitter.com/0WCAC2OS6X
