Authorities believe that more than 100 people have been injured and “dozens” killed during a stampede at a Jewish religious festival.
The country’s rescue service says it is currently treating 103 people and 38 people are in a critical condition.
It was initially reported that chaos erupted when a grandstand collapsed, but this was later revised that to confirm a stampede had occurred, causing the injuries and deaths.
Tens of thousands of Israelis were gathering at Mount Meron to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Lag Ba’Omer.
It’s the first gathering of its kind since covid-19 restrictions were eased recently.
Authorities are concerned that the death toll could surpass 50.
