A freight train has derailed west of a major regional city in Australia

Dozens of shipping containers are now piled on top of each other, across the railway tracks.

Eight wagons came off tracks early this morning at Inverleigh, west of Geelong.

State authorities confirmed nobody was hurt in the incident and there were no dangerous goods onboard.

Victoria was hit by wild weather overnight and authorities said there had been substantial damage to the tracks.
