Creators warned to safeguard content amid looming TikTok ban

Discussions surrounding the potential banning of TikTok, owned by Chinese company ByteDance, have intensified as politicians both in the US and internationally deem it a tool for propaganda and a security concern.

Efforts to mandate the sale of TikTok commenced during the Trump administration and persist into President Biden’s tenure, yet have yet to yield success. Recently, the House passed a bill on March 13th with the potential to ban TikTok, awaiting Senate approval, which President Biden has indicated he would endorse.

Concurrently, various bans targeting TikTok have been implemented across the US, prohibiting its usage on devices associated with educational institutions and governmental entities at various levels.

Despite assertions from some experts that TikTok hasn’t posed greater risks to user privacy compared to platforms like Facebook or Google, politicians continue to entertain the notion of a complete TikTok ban if a separation from ByteDance cannot be achieved.
