Detective’s tireless pursuit leads to resolution of Lynette Dawson’s 40-year-old murder case, despite initial challenges and circumstantial evidence.
Lynette Dawson disappeared in January 1982, leaving behind two young daughters. Her husband, Chris Dawson, was the last to see her alive, and suspicion quickly fell on him.
The case remained cold for 40 years until Detective Sergeant Damian Loone committed himself to uncovering the truth.
Loone, influenced by his own family background, believed a mother wouldn’t abandon her children and sensed something sinister had happened.
Despite facing obstacles, including insufficient evidence rulings that stifled prosecution efforts, Loon persevered, promising Lynette’s family he would seek justice.
In August 2022, Chris Dawson was found guilty, marking a significant breakthrough.
Now retired, Loone serves as a deputy mayor in New South Wales, advocating for community safety and support following natural disasters.
