City of New York settling lawsuits over Malcom X assassination

The City of New York is settling lawsuits filed on behalf of two men, who were exonerated for the 1965 assassination of Malcolm X.

Muhammad Aziz and Khalil Islam were wrongfully convicted of killing the human rights activist, and both men spent decades behind bars.

The city has agreed to pay $26 million, and the State of New York will pay an additional $10 million.

Last year, a Manhattan judge dismissed the convictions, after prosecutors said new evidence of witness intimidation had undermined the case against the men.

Aziz and Islam, who maintained their innocence from the start, were paroled in the 1980s.
