Christian school shooter identified as transgender, former student

Authorities say they found maps and a detailed manifesto

Police are working to learn more about the 28-year-old transgender shooter who killed three children and three adult staff members at a Christian school in Nashville, Tennessee.

A phone call went into police about an active shooter situation at the Covenant school.

Officers were on the scene within moments of the call.

Officials say the suspect—Audrey Hale who identifies as transgender— had two assault style rifles and a handgun used to kill six people.

Police engaged with gunfire exchange before killing the shooter.

Authorities say Hale, was a former student who had a detailed manifesto to attack the Christian academy.

As events were unfolding during the deadly incident, parents raced to pick up their children.

The tight-knit community now on edge after the killings.

U.S. President Joe Biden expressed condolences and said he is closely monitoring the situation.

Authorities say they are in contact with the suspects father and will release video about the shooting in the coming days.

According to statistics, this is the 17th school shooting in the United States since the start of the year.
