China’s successful control of COVID-19 is under threat as a Delta-driven outbreak continues to spread

Chinese authorities are racing to curb the widespread outbreak, the nation’s worst since the start of the pandemic.

It’s being fuelled by the highly transmissible Delta variant.

This has led to the introduction of coronavirus curbs – restricting travel and movement

Hong Kong also tightening restrictions for almost all residents returning from mainland China

China’s vice-premier warning of an ‘uncertain’ situation caused by the Delta variant.

more than 500 cases have been recorded in recent weeks… including 62 new local cases that were logged yesterday..down from 71 a day earlier.

Of real concern is the geographical spread of the outbreak.

Cases have been recorded in dozens of cities, Including Wuhan – the original COVID-19 epicenter

These are the first cases in the city since June last year – prompting a testing blitz and strict controls.

Authorities say they want to test all residents in the city.
