Two of the world’s biggest carmakers, Ford and Toyota, say production is being disrupted by trucker protests in Canada

Manufacturing hubs have been forced to close because car parts are being held up at two US border points blocked by demonstrators.

Canada’s trucker protests have now entered their second week with authorities warning more arrests will come.

The trade disruption is estimated to be costing $300m everyday

Ongoing truck protests are blocking the most important border crossing, the Ambassador Bridge.

Demonstrators have been seen waving Canadian flags and banners denouncing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who has refused to scrap a mandate that requires truckers entering Canada to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The demonstrators have also voiced opposition to COVID passports and the requirement to wear masks.

The Ambassador Bridge is the largest international suspension bridge in the world and carries about a quarter of US-Canada trade.

The bridge connects Windsor, Ontario, to Detroit, in the US state of Michigan.
