Queenslanders and residents throughout Australia are waking up with excitement this morning after the city of Brisbane was chosen as the host city for the 2032 Olympic Games

The announcement by the International Olympic Committee follows six years of planning by Queensland officials.

The IOC selected Brisbane with 72 votes to five… with the President saying Australia’s love and passion for sport is what secured the victory.

With a population of just 2.56 million, Brisbane is the smallest city to host an Olympics since the Helsinki Games of 1952

The IOC President said, “the Aussies really demonstrate it… you could feel it during the whole presentation, I could feel it even in my visit a couple of years ago to Queensland”.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring more sustainable Games in line with new IOC reforms.

Meanwhile, Queensland’s Premier says “under the Olympics ‘New Norm’ the state has over 80 per cent of venues already built.. cooperation with all three levels of government and agreements to do the infrastructure that is already needed for our city”.

And it all kicks off in just over 4,000 days
