The State Department internal watchdog is launching an investigation into the Biden administration’s withdrawal from Afghanistan

The department’s acting inspector general says that her office will open “several oversight projects” in relation to ending diplomatic operation in Afghanistan.

The inquiry will explore the State Department’s Special Immigrant Visa programs, Afghans processed for refugee admission into the US.; resettlement of Afghan refugees and visa recipients; and the emergency evacuation of the U.S. Embassy in Kabul .

This comes after the US’ withdrawal from Afghanistan was seen as a strategic failure given the rapid collapse of the Afghan government and the takeover of the Taliban.
