After over 50 left their roles from Johnson’s government, the soon to go PM has appointed a new cabinet in the meantime.

Following the string of resignations handed to Boris Johnson in the space of just a few days, the outgoing Prime Minister has appointed his new cabinet.

The new ministers will remain in place up until Johnson’s successor is elected by the Conservative party.

Most notably, Greg Clark has been named as the levelling up secretary, and James Cleverly is the education secretary.

Robert Buckland is making a return to cabinet, saying the interim leadership team will ensure the “day-to-day operation” of the government continues.

Buckland previously resigned from this role, saying he was given “inaccurate briefings” about the Chris Pincher affair.

Johnson is pledging he will not make any major policy decisions while he stays on as caretaker PM.

Interestingly, Will Quince will resume in his post as education minister.

But not everyone is happy with Johnson’s decision to carry on with former prime minister Sir John Major saying the move is “unwise and may be unsustainable.”

Israel expands military strikes in Lebanon

Israel has widened its military operations in Lebanon, launching a deadly airstrike in the northern region. The attack, which targeted a house sheltering displaced families, killed at least 21 people, leaving eight others injured, according to health officials. Rescue workers are still searching through the rubble for survivors.

This shift marks a significant escalation, as Israel had previously focused its strikes on the south, the Bekaa Valley, and Beirut’s outskirts. Meanwhile, millions of Israelis are taking cover from cross-border rocket fire as the violence intensifies. Israel has also ordered the evacuation of 25 villages in southern Lebanon. Prime Minister Netanyahu vowed to continue targeting Hezbollah “without mercy,” even extending operations to Beirut. In eastern Lebanon, civilians like Jalal Ferhat and his family have fled toward the Syrian border in a desperate attempt to escape the worsening conflict.
