Five Black former Memphis police officers have been charged with murder in the death of the Black motorist.
He was beaten during a traffic stop and died several days later in the hospital.
Bodycam footage shows the Memphis cops fatally beating the 29-year-old.
The city’s top police official described the officers actions captured in the disturbing and graphic video as “heinous, reckless and inhumane”.
The Memphis police chief has disbanded the city’s so-called Scorpion unit.
The five officers were charged with seven counts, including one count of second-degree murder.
U.S. cities have erupted into protests following Nichols’ death.
