Australia’s COVID battle is continuing

Much of Australia is continuing to battle a growing number of Covid-19 infections as the race to vaccinate continues with some restrictions expected to ease for Melbourne residents this week.

From midnight on Tuesday, those living in Melbourne will have their travel raidus increased from 10km to 15km with “contactless” outdoor activities including tennis and golf also permitted.

In regional Victoria, the cap on outdoor seating for restaurants and cafes will increase from 20 to 30 people.

This comes as Premier Daniel Andrews confirms that his state will meet a vaccination milestone this week with 80% of residents having their first vaccine dose by Tuesday.

Meanwhile, as for New South Wales and the city of Sydney, Premier Gladys Berejiklian says her government is close to finalising its roadmap out of lockdown.

These plans will be released later in the week.
