Australia fans brawl with French in Melbourne

There have been ugly scenes at Melbourne’s Federation Square during Australia’s FIFA World Cup clash with France

Fights and scuffles broke out as Australian fans took out their frustrations on the French supporters.

Bottles were thrown and French flags were destroyed as the Socceroos went down 4-1 in the opening match.

Thousands of fans woke up for the match, which kicked off at 6am local time.

But early glimmers of hope quickly turned sour.

It’s understood Police have not recieved any complaints but are open to investigating any reports that come through.

The reigning world champions move to the top of Group D. While a draw between Denmark and Tunisia means it’s still an open field in Qatar.
