Australia declares India a ‘top-tier’ security partner

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese wants to place the Asian nation “at the heart” of Indo-Pacific and beyond

 
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has declared India a “top tier” security partner during a visit to the nation’s Western Naval Command.

During the visit, Albanese became the only foreign leader to ever board an Indian-built aircraft carrier.

The PM says plans are in place for India to participate for in Australia’s war games – an event which involves thousands of troops on land, sea and in the air.

The games are led by either Australia or the U.S. and include the use of major assets such as warships, fighters, bombers and artillery.

In 2017, New Zealand, Japanese and Canadian forces participated.

Albanese says the trip reflects his government’s desire “to place India at the heart of Australia’s approach to the Indo-Pacific and beyond.
