Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese has announced an additional AU$110 million worth of support for Ukraine in its ongoing war with Russia.

A further 70 military vehicles will be sent to Ukraine, including 28 armoured vehicles.

Additionally, $10 million will be provided to the UN to help meet humanitarian needs in Ukraine in the wake of Russia’s invasion.

In addition to Bushmaster armoured personnel carriers, drones, and ammunition, Australia has already provided Ukraine with over $650 million worth of support.

The extra support Australia provided to Ukraine was not a result of a weekend mutiny in Russia, according to Albanese.

Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator Simon Birmingham, said it was important to continue support for Ukraine as they were helping uphold the global rules based order.

“It’s important for us to remember this is not just about Ukraine,” he said, “there is also a much bigger picture at stake.”

“Which goes to whether or not countries will stand up and defend international laws and rules, whether they will defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of smaller nations against larger aggressors.”
