Aussie miners threaten jobs over IR reforms

With thousands of layoffs in the tech sector, Australian companies are warning of further job losses linked to new employment laws.

Mining companies have warned that up to 33,000 jobs are at-risk from new taxes and multi-employer bargaining changes.

They say mining projects worth $77 billion are under threat because of investment uncertainty.

Mining companies say a “slow down” in critical minerals would risk the government’s plan to cut emissions by 43 per cent.

The lack of clarity over taxes, multi-employer bargaining, environmental planning changes and a crackdown on heavy emitters has sparked a national campaign by business about investment and sovereign risk impacts.

The Greens party will this week ramp-up pressure on the government to impose a windfall profits tax on energy companies.
