ASX tech sector surges 12% in strongest rally in 16 years as investor confidence returns

The ASX tech sector has recorded its strongest weekly surge in 16 years, jumping 12% as investor confidence returns to growth stocks.

The rally has coincided with record highs in US tech markets, signalling renewed global momentum.

This has raised questions about whether Australian tech is finally catching up after a long period of underperformance.

Filip Tortevski from Wealth Within says the move is being driven by stretched low valuations, shifting macroeconomic expectations, and renewed appetite for risk assets, alongside the ongoing inverse relationship between oil and tech since the GFC.

Despite the strong rally, caution remains due to macroeconomic uncertainty, interest rate expectations, and global volatility, leaving investors to assess whether this is the start of a structural recovery or simply a short-term rebound.
