As the Hollywood trial between Johnny Depp and ex-wife Amber Heard continues, the evidence so far is suggesting Depp is a victim of domestic abuse
The trial between Johnny Depp and ex-wife Amber Heard is dominating Hollywood.
In case you’ve missed it, Depp is suing his ex-wife over an op-ed she wrote where she is describing herself as a victim of domestic abuse. She has filed a counterclaim for $100 million.
Numerous witnesses have taken to the stand to reveal shocking details of the couple’s turbulent relationship.
Most recently, an employee of Depp’s security team, Travis McGivern revealed Heard punched and spat at Depp.
McGivern was a nine-year veteran of Depp’s security and says he witnessed Heard throw a Red Bull can at Depp.
During the trial in the Virginia Court, numerous witnesses have testified that Depp was the victim of consistent abuse from Heard, with many witnessing it first hand.
Serveral audio pieces were played of Heard taumenting Depp and verbally abusing him. The audio also proved Heard admitting to hitting Depp.
Evidence was also shown of Depp’s sliced finger, after a bottle was thrown at him by Heard.
Psychologist Shannon Curry on Depp’s team also came the conclusion after an examintation that Heard suffers from two personality disorders that make it likely for her to be abusive.
While, Amber Heard is yet to take the stand and the trial is not over, so far the evidence suggests Depp was the victim of domestic abuse.
Double standards?
While there are still weeks to go, many witnesses to still testify, so far the evidence suggests that Depp was a victim of abuse.
Estimates show around one in four women and one in nine men are the victims of domestic or family violence.
Heard submitted a photo of her alleged bruised face to the court, but her doctor Erin Falatai isn’t confident it was abuse from Depp.
When Heard wrote the op-ed that claimed she was a victim of domestic abuse, it severely impacted Depp’s reputation and acting career.
He lost millions after losing his contract with the Pirates Of The Caribbean 6 because of the allegations. He lost his reputation, with people quick to cancel him, based on allegations that might not even be true?
While, Depp should rightly lose acting gigs if he abused Heard in anyway, shouldn’t it be the same for Heard, given the evidence that she abused Depp?
Hollywood soap opera
The trial is being viewed as a Hollywood Soap Opera, with millions tuning in to watch. It’s being viewed on the front lines of TikTok and other social media platforms, like never before.
Over three million people have now signed a petition to have Heard dropped from Aquaman 2, following allegations of her abuse against Depp.
Some are saying it would be double standards if Heard isn’t dropped. It also begs the question are men treated differently as victims of domestic abuse?
Regardless of who’s at fault here, abuse allegations of any kind should be taken seriously.
The #MeToo movement has created a myriad of positive outlets for victims of assault, but, does that mean every allegation of abuse from a woman is true?
These are all valid questions coming to light as the Depp Vs Heard trial continues.
