And they are also central to national security.
Or so the Biden administration seems to think, as they recently announced a ban on U.S. companies investing in certain Chinese technologies, including these chips.
They are also a central issue in the tension over Taiwan, which produces the world’s most advanced chips.
But will these bans work? Or will they have any unintended consequences?
