It follows the Biden administration forming working groups with nations including Canada, Mexico, the EU and the UK in a bid to develop a coordinated approach when it comes to lifting border restrictions.

Although the White House is yet to comment on international travel restrictions, it is expected that the establishment of the working groups is a step in the right direction.

In recent months, the European Union has relaxed its restrictions around American residents visiting the continent provided they have been vaccinated.

But the US Department of Homeland Security says it will extend the closure of land borders with Canada and Mexico until at least August 21.

Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki says the Delta variant is here and cases are rising.
