America records first case of Polio in almost a decade

U.S. health authorities have recorded the first case of polio in nearly a decade, with an unvaccinated adult testing positive to the virus

The individual lives in Rockland County, and has now developed paralysis.

Officials say the person developed symptoms a month ago and has not recently travelled outside of the U.S.

It’s believed they contracted a vaccine-derived strain of the virus, potentially from someone who received a ‘live’ vaccine – which is available in other countries, but not America.

While the person is no longer contagious, investigators are still working to establish how the infection occurred and whether others have been exposed to the virus.

Experts say this is a wake-up call and while most Americans are vaccinated, those who aren’t should roll up their sleeves and get jabbed.
