Alec Baldwin hit with two counts of involuntary manslaughter in death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the New Mexico movie set

Actor Alec Baldwin has been charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Halyna Hutchins.

The armorer on the film, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was also charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter.

On October 21, 2021, Baldwin fired a prop gun on the “Rust” film set outside of Santa Fe killing Hutchins, the cinematographer.

New Mexico First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies announced the charges, 15 months after the shooting.

The district attorney explained that Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed were “charged in the alternative”, meaning that a jury will decide if the two are guilty as well as which definition of involuntary manslaughter their actions fall under.

The assistant director on the film, Dave Halls, signed a plea agreement for a charge of negligent use of a deadly weapon.

The district attorney announced the terms of his agreement included a suspended sentence and six months of probation.

After the charges were announced, Hutchins’ family thanked the sheriff’s office and the DA.

In a statement, Baldwin’s attorney called the charges a “terrible miscarriage of justice” and said they will fight the charges.

If Baldwin is convicted, he could face up to 18 months in prison.
