Air New Zealand turns unused cabin space into economy bunk beds
Air New Zealand is giving economy passengers a new way to sleep on long-haul flights, with its Skynest turning unused vertical cabin space into six bunk beds.
The bunks provide passengers with a fully flat surface stretching up to two metres, offering a sleeping space comparable in length to some business class beds.
Flight Hacks’ Tom Goward tested the Skynest and says he initially approached the concept sceptically, but was surprised by how comfortable it was.
The new seating concept could give economy travellers an alternative to spending an entire long-haul flight in a traditional upright seat, while helping airlines make better use of cabin space.
