President Biden warns democracy is under attack

President Joe Biden delivered his highly-anticipated prime-time address, where he called for an end to political violence

President Biden delivered his “battle for the soul of the nation” address at Independence Hall, in Pennsylvania. Democracy was front and centre for the President’s speech, calling on America’s to stand up for democracy.

“While the threat to America is real, we are not powerless in the face of these threats. There are far more Americans of every background and belief who reject the extreme MAGA ideology than those who accept it.”

The President told voters that Republicans are threatening the nations values and what it means to be American.

He encouraged them stand up for democracy and promised his administration will lead the country to success.

“For a long time, we’ve reassured ourselves that American democracy is guaranteed. But it is not. We have to defend it. Protect it. Stand up for it. That’s why tonight, I am asking the nation to come together and unite behind this single purpose – of saving our democracy.”

The President did not hold back, as he doubled down on his election victory and the defeat of Former President Donald Trump.

Biden repeatedly called out the “MAGA Republicans” for putting a stain on U.S. democracy, as riots engulfed the nation on January 6 last year.

He says the “MAGA Republicans” support authoritarian leaders and disrupt the rule of law.

The speech marks Biden’s second visit to Pennsylvania this week alone. The state is a key battleground for Democrats as the U.S. races towards November’s mid-term elections.

The location of the speech was fitting. Independence Hall is known as the birthplace of American democracy, and is the same place Biden launched his 2020 bid to become U.S. President.
