Israel will hold its fifth election in under four years, as lawmakers dissolve the nation’s parliament

Yair Lapid is set to become the new Prime Minister of Israel.

Lapid is currently Israel’s Foreign Affairs Minister, and will take over from Naftali Bennett, who has been in the top job for a year.

Reports suggest the pair agreed to rotate office when they formed an unlikely eight-party coalition after last year’s election.

Yair Lapid is set to become Israel’s new Prime Minister.

However, the coalition collapsed last week, which led lawmakers to dissolve parliament altogether.

This makes the incumbent the nation’s shortest-serving leader.

“I do not intend to run in the upcoming election but I remain a loyal soldier for this country.”

Parties have previously failed to secure enough seats to form a governing coalition with a majority in recent years.

The elections will be take place on 1 November.
