What you need to know about the U.S. Capitol riot hearings

Published

The U.S. is holding is first prime-time televised hearing on the January 6 Capitol Riots

The House committee is seeking to expose President Trump’s plot to tarnish the 2020 election with false claims of voter fraud.

The panel is under pressure to establish the depth of Trump’s apparent conspiracy.

It plans to prove the attack on the Capitol was not a rally that got out of hand, but rather the culmination of weeks of deception from the Former President.

The hearing will be the first of many, and will also give viewers a summary of the panel’s findings so far.

Some Americans have questioned whether the event remains relevant for many Americans, but U.S. house speaker Nancy Pelosi insists that democracy is in everyone’s interest.

But Republicans believe the investigation is a move to stain President Trump’s reputation.
