Taiwan’s Air Force has scrambled to ward off 27 Chinese aircraft entering its air defence zone

It’s the latest case of “grey zone” warfare across the Taiwan Strait.

The Chinese-claimed territory has complained for more than a year about Beijing conducting repeated missions near the island.

The democratically-governed nation believes the warfare is designed to wear out their forces by making them repeatedly scramble, and also to test its response.

In this latest instance, Taiwan sent combat aircraft to warn the Chinese aircraft, while missile systems were deployed to monitor them.

There was no immediate comment from China. But in the past, the nation has said such moves were drills aimed at protecting the country’s sovereignty.

However, Chinese state media reported that President Xi Jinping had held a three-day meeting ending on Sunday to discuss with the country’s top officers how further to strengthen its armed forces through talent cultivation.
