Ukraine launched a significant drone strike on Moscow early on June 30, targeting a military satellite communications facility for the second time in eight days, resulting in the death of a six-month-old baby.The Dubna space communications centre is critical for civilian telecommunications across various time zones.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that Russian air defenses intercepted 61 drones approaching the capital and that a total of 419 drones were shot down across 18 Russian regions overnight.

The attack commenced at approximately 4 a.m. local time and occurred in waves. In Yegoryevsk, a six-month-old baby died when a private house was set ablaze due to a drone crash, with injuries reported for two adults and another child.

President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Ukraine’s drones struck the Dubna Space Communications Center, located roughly 500 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

Zelensky stated that these actions are part of Ukraine’s long-range campaign against Russian military capabilities.

Previous strikes on June 22 damaged the facility’s antenna and control building.

The drone strikes have led to heightened pressure on the Kremlin, prompting public acknowledgments from Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding fuel shortages due to these attacks.

Russian authorities reported shooting down 660 Ukrainian drones in a two-day span from June 26 to June 27.

In response to these strikes, Russia is reallocating air defense systems to key targets, including Moscow and the Kerch Bridge.

Zelensky emphasized the intent to complicate the aggressor state’s ability to sustain its war against Ukraine.

Ongoing drone campaigns are reshaping supply chains within Russia, notably affecting fuel distribution.
