8 people taken to hospital after a shooting at a Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade

At least eight people have been shot during a parade commemorating Martin Luther King Junior Day in Fort Pierce, Florida.

Authorities say the wounded individuals have been taken to hospital with one in a critical condition.

It’s believed shots were fired following a “disagreement” between individuals.

It remains unclear if anyone has been taken into custody or if any suspects have been identified.

The Saint Lucie County Sheriff’s Office says police are following multiple leads and tips from the community.

Chief Deputy Brian Hester says frantic event attendees did everything they could to find shelter.

“As our deputies were arriving and entering the scene… it was mass chaos there. There were people laying behind cars, laying behind anything they could lay behind. It was kind of hard to tell who was a victim and who was just hiding at that point.”
