$5.4 million investment in MedLuma aims to enhance Australian healthcare while prioritising local governance and clinician trust

In Short:
– Best Practice Software has invested $5.4 million in MedLuma, an AI product aiding Australian clinicians.
– MedLuma enhances clinical workflow with trusted, local guidance while prioritising safety and governance in healthcare technology.

Best Practice Software has invested $5.4 million in Medcast’s AI platform MedLuma, backing the development of Australian built technology designed to help clinicians navigate complex medical information and improve access to trusted clinical guidance.

MedLuma integrates directly into clinical workflows, allowing healthcare professionals to access locally relevant, evidence based guidance within patient records, without switching between multiple browser tabs.

The platform prioritises transparent sourcing, clinical governance and respect for intellectual property, with the aim of supporting clinical judgement rather than replacing it.

Best Practice Software CEO Craig Hodges and Medcast’s Dr Stephen Barnett say the investment will support the expansion of Medcast’s AI development team, commercial licensing of quality medical information and the introduction of human clinical validators to strengthen the platform’s reliability.

The companies say the investment also reflects the importance of protecting Australian clinical knowledge as a national asset, while reducing reliance on offshore digital health technology.

They believe developing domestic healthcare AI capabilities could establish a stronger foundation for Australia’s health system and create opportunities for international growth.
