Russia’s Victory Day: Putin addresses the nation

Russian President Vladimir Putin has made a speech following the May 9th Victory Day in Moscow

Russia’s annual Victory Day parade have commenced and the country’s leader Vladimir Putin has made a speech to celebrate.

He says his invasion of Ukraine was a needed and a “timely” measure and that it was the “right decision” of an independent, strong and sovereign country.

There were no major announcements in Putin’s address but the leader made attempts to justify the war of Ukraine.

President Putin noted that NATO and Ukraine were creating threats that were “unacceptable” to his nation.

Russia’s Victory Day parade commemorates the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany in 1945, and thousands of Russians attend.

But despite celebrations in Moscow, Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky has openly stated that the bombardment of cities and mass deportations from the Kremlin has mirrored the crimes of the Nazis.

The leader is expected to flaunt his nation’s military might during the event.

Reports suggest huge inter-continental ballistic missiles will be towed through Moscow’s Red Square, and a planned flyover will feature fighter jets.

Meanwhile Nato Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has used Victory Day to call on Putin to end the war in Ukraine immediately.
