Calls made with AI-generated voices are declared illegal after a fake robocall imitating President Joe Biden sought to dissuade people from voting for him.
In response to growing deepfake imitations, the federal government has ruled that the use of AI over call is officially illegal.
Artificial intelligence lab OpenAI is also forming a new team to create democratic processes to shape how its AI software should be governed to address bias and other factors, the Microsoft-backed company said in a blog post.
“Bad actors are using AI-generated voices in unsolicited robocalls to extort vulnerable family members, imitate celebrities, and misinform voters. We’re putting the fraudsters behind these robocalls on notice,” FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel said.
