Singapore Airlines’ cabin refresh lacks impact, prompting calls for enhancements amid fierce competition in the airline market
Aviation commentator Tom Goward says Singapore Airlines’ latest cabin plans lack a “wow factor” as competition intensifies across the premium airline market.
Goward, from Flight Hacks, argues that Singapore Airlines needs to continue enhancing its product offering as rival carriers including Cathay Pacific and Qatar Airways invest heavily in their passenger experience.
Singapore Airlines plans to introduce all-new First Class and Business Class products, while its Premium Economy Class and Economy Class cabins will also be refreshed to enhance the customer experience.
The next-generation cabin products are planned for the airline’s upcoming Boeing 777-9 aircraft and will also be retrofitted to its Airbus A350-900 long-haul and ultra-long-range aircraft.
Singapore Airlines is expected to unveil its next-generation long-haul cabin products towards the end of 2026, alongside a refreshed KrisWorld in-flight entertainment system and enhancements to its food and beverage programme and amenity kits.
Future improvements could increasingly focus on sleep quality and overall passenger comfort as competition between the world’s major premium airlines intensifies.
CLARIFICATION: During the interview, it was stated that the cabin enhancements would not extend to Economy Class and the Boeing 787-9 was referenced. Singapore Airlines has confirmed that Premium Economy Class and Economy Class will also be refreshed, and that the correct aircraft type for its new cabin products is the Boeing 777-9.
