What its like to live under the world’s strictest lockdown

Published

on

Shanghai residents are about to enter their most extreme lockdown yet, with officials standing by to further restrict further access to food and hospitals

Commercial food deliveries have been banned and only emergency patients will be allowed into medical facilities.

Neighbours of confirmed Covid cases and other close contacts will also be moved into specialised government quarantine facilities.

It’s the city’s seventh week of lockdown, and many of the 25 million residents remain largely trapped in their homes.

Although cases have begun to decrease, authorities have been unable to hit the desired target of “societal zero”.

This is when no cases are reported outside of quarantine facilities at all.

But despite these tough measures, authorities claim that those living in half of the neighbourhoods are free to leave their homes and walk around.
