In Short:
– Walmart will expand its drone delivery to 100 stores across five U.S. cities by next summer.
– Deliveries will reach millions within six miles of Walmart Supercenters, with initial deliveries free for Walmart+ members.
Walmart is set to expand its drone delivery service to 100 stores in five major U.S. cities by next summer.
According to Walmart, this marks the largest commercial drone delivery expansion in American history, building on existing pilot programs in Dallas-Fort Worth and Arkansas. The new service will offer 30-minute deliveries in Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, Orlando, and Tampa, reaching millions within a six-mile radius of participating Walmart Supercenters.

Wing CEO Adam Woodworth stated that the rollout will be complete by this time next year.

Regulatory Changes

The expansion benefits from new Federal Aviation Administration regulations that simplify commercial drone operations.

Proposed rules would allow unmanned aircraft to fly without individual waivers, expediting drone delivery services.

Walmart’s confidence stems from over 150,000 deliveries completed since 2021 in current markets.

The broader U.S. drone delivery market is projected to grow significantly, with initial deliveries set to be free for Walmart+ members.
