The US Journalist who was sentenced by a Myanmar military court to 11 years imprisonment has officially been freed

Danny Fenster was pardoned and let go on humanitarian grounds after days between Myanmar’s military junta and former US ambassador to the UN, Bill Richardson.

Fenster’s employer, Frontier says the journalist was on a flight out of the country and back to America.

Fenster was the managing editor of the English-language news site… and was convicted of breaching immigration law, unlawful association and encouraging dissent.

He was arrested in May and spent a total of 176 days in prison.

Fenster is one of many journalists who have been arrested and charged since the military staged a coup and took control of Myanmar back in February.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken says Fenster has been “wrongfully detained for almost six months”, and welcomes the release.
