The UN Human Rights Council is set to convene on Thursday to discuss the latest on the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Ukraine due to the war

The United Nations Human Rights Council is set to hold a special session regarding Ukraine this week.

Spokesperson Rolando Gomez says the meeting follows a request made by Kyiv, which called for a review of the situation.

Yevheniia Filipenko, Ukraine’s ambassador to the United Nations, wrote a letter urging it to consider “recent reports of war crimes” – including the horror in Bucha, stressing the need for critical talks.

Reports state that Britain, the United States as well as Germany were among 55 countries who signed the letter in support.

Those countries demanding the critical meeting of the UN’s top rights body to examine “the deteriorating human rights situation in Ukraine stemming from the Russian aggression”.

The UN meeting will convene at 10am local time in Geneva.

Russia withdrew from the council last month in the wake of the UN General Assembly voting to suspend Moscow from attending.
