Ukrainian forces have regained control of Makariv, a town around 30 miles west of Kyiv

Ukraine’s Armed Forces says the state flag of Ukraine was raised over the city as Russian forces retreated.

While the claims have not been officially verified, the city had sustained significant damage from ongoing Russian airstrikes.

Some images showed major damage to apartment complexes, schools and a medical facility.

The Russian Ministry of Defence has repeatedly claimed it is not targeting civilian

It comes as President Zelensky says he’s prepared to discuss a commitment for Ukraine not to seek NATO membership.

The leader says this will come in exchange for a cease-fire, the withdrawal of Russian troops and a guarantee of Ukraine’s security.
