UK protesters call for no-fly zone over Ukraine

Protesters called for Nato to “close the skies” over Ukraine at a demonstration central London.

The protest was organised by the Ukrainian campaign group London Euromaidan.

Hundreds of protesters carrying Ukrainian flags attended the event, with crowds chanting “close the skies” and “hands off Ukraine, Putin”.

Attendees carried signs saying “Only military force will stop a madman” and “Sanctions do not stop bombs”.

Many sang songs in Ukrainian.

One of those attending the event said: “I am here to show solidarity with the Ukrainian people and to demand that the UK and Nato as a whole do more to help Ukrainian people.

“We are demanding that they close the skies, we need more sanctions.”

The protesters called on the UK government to speed up the visa process for Ukrainian refugees.
