U.S. Navy lifts blockade of Iran’s ports

The U.S. Navy has lifted its blockade of Iran’s ports following a directive from President D.J. Trump.U.S. Central Command announced that American forces will no longer impede vessel transit to or from Iranian ports.

The blockade was ended after the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Under this agreement, Iran will allow commercial vessels to transit the Strait of Hormuz without tolls for 60 days.

Vice President JD Vance reported that Iran has not fired on vessels in the strait for the past two nights.

Vance noted that over 12 million barrels of oil have reportedly transited Hormuz recently.

Three Saudi tankers carrying approximately 6 million barrels have crossed the strait, according to the trade intelligence firm Kpler.

Oil flows through Hormuz were about 14 million barrels per day before the recent conflict, disrupted by U.S. and Israeli actions against Iran on February 28.

Tehran’s response had initially included attacking ships, significantly affecting the vital sea lane.

Kpler predicts that oil flow through Hormuz could reach nearly 50% of prewar levels within 30 days if the U.S.-Iran deal is fully realised without issues.

An expert from Energy Aspects, Amrita Sen, cautioned that the return to pre-conflict levels is unlikely to be instantaneous.

The resumption of normal operations will be gradual, with stuck ships being prioritised in the initial phase.
